I can't find Smiley Central in Outlook Express. Where is it?
If you cannot find Smiley Central on your Outlook Express system, please check the following two items:

1) Have you successfully downloaded Smiley Central? (Not sure? Click here to download.) If you have, close your email system. Then open it again and compose a message. You should see the navigation bar with the Smiley Central button, search box and more in the Compose/New Mail screen.

Here's what to look for: Click here to see a picture

2) You have maximized your Compose/New Mail window. Smaller size windows can hide the Smiley Central button. Maximizing your window will show all your navigation buttons, and prevent the Smiley Central window from obscuring your email text. To maximize, click the "" button on the top-right corner of your Compose page.

When I send an email, the recipient can only see the smiley as an attachment. What can I do?
If you are using Outlook Express to send emails containing smileys, and the recipient of the email is receiving the smileys as attachments rather than icons embedded into your message, you need to change your mail setting format to HTML.

  1. Click on the Tools/Options dropdown
  2. Select the "Send" tab
  3. Make sure that the radio button next to "HTML" is marked
  4. Click the "HTML Settings" button under the "Mail Sending Format" header
  5. In the resulting pop-up uncheck the box next to "Send pictures with messages"
  6. Click the "OK" button on the HTML settings pop-up
  7. Click the "Apply" button on the Options pop-up

When I try to send a smiley, I get an error that says: "One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. When you send this message these pictures will not be included." Is this true?
Please ignore the message. Even though you are receiving this error, your smiley is successfully being delivered. However, to avoid seeing the message every time you send a smiley, please do the following:

1) Open Outlook Express and click "Tools" at the top of the window.
2) Select "Options..." and then click the "Send" tab.
3) Click the "HTML Settings" button to the right of the "Mail Sending Format" sub-category. An "HTML Settings" pop-up should now appear.
4) From within the "HTML Settings" pop-up, uncheck the "Send pictures with message" box.
5) Click OK.

Can I copy and paste a smiley into another document, like Word or PowerPoint?
Yes - you can paste a smiley into nearly any document that accepts images. To do so, right-click on the desired smiley and highlight the "Copy" option. Then use the Paste command (Ctrl-V) to place the smiley in your document.

Please note: The copy-and-paste feature is not compatible with Custom smileys, and smileys cannot be pasted into instant messages. Animated smileys will not animate in word processing documents, and will only animate when a PowerPoint document is being displayed as a slide show.

I don't see Smiley Central or the toolbar on my browser. What do I do?
If you have downloaded Smiley Central and are not seeing the Smiley Central button or the toolbar on your browser, you are likely experiencing one of two scenarios:

1)  You did not close all your open browsers once you downloaded Smiley Central. Please do this now and then reopen a new browser.

2) You may need to enable the toolbar through your browser's menu. To do this, click on the "View" menu option, then select "Toolbars".  You will see "My Web Search" listed in the dropdown - make sure that there is a check mark next to it.  If there is no check mark, click on it in order to enable your toolbar. (Click here to see a picture)

If the toolbar does have a check mark but is not visible on your browser, clear the check mark by clicking on the name of the toolbar. Then repeat the steps above to re-enable it. The toolbar should now appear.  (Click here to see a picture)
